Why are music and liturgy together?
Our parish and many others combine the responsibilities of music and liturgy because music has always played an integral role in the prayers and liturgical actions that take place during Mass. When we sing the various parts of the Mass, our song becomes a prayer that draws our hearts and minds closer to God, allowing Him to speak to us and us to speak to Him in a very beautiful and unique way. The music ministers have such an important role, not only in selecting songs and hymns that accurately express the faith of the community, but also in setting the right tone for each celebration in the way the music is played and sung. They must always be sensitive and attentive to what is happening at Mass in order to facilitate a smooth, prayerful and vibrant liturgy.
