Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
For Masses and Communion Services

Receiving Holy Communion, or the Eucharist, at Mass is one of the seven Sacraments of our Catholic faith. It was instituted by Jesus Christ Himself (Matthew 26:26-28, Mark 14:22-25, Luke 22:7-20, John 6:25-71). As Catholics, we believe that once the bread and wine are consecrated by the priest, the risen Jesus Christ is wholly present in both the bread and wine.
We have Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC) trained to assist with the distribution of Holy Communion. EMHC are parishioners who are devoted and dedicated to the beauty and reality of the Eucharist and who assist the priest at Mass with the distribution of Holy Communion.
Our EMHC also take the Eucharist to the homebound and infirm as delegated representatives of the Holy Spirit parish community. The retirement communities and hospitals served by Holy Spirit parish are Carrington Pointe, Children’s Hospital, Fairwinds, Horizon, Kaiser Hospital, Cottonwood Court, San Joaquin Rehabilitation Hospital, St. Agnes Hospital, Sunrise and Windham. In addition, our EMHC take the Eucharist to parishioners who are ill and confined to their homes.
You may choose to serve at Mass or to visit a retirement home (or both). EMHC serve based on their schedule. If you are interested in serving, please contact Bill Heisdorf at 559 434-7701 or Jessie Wedam at 415 305-4222. We will be happy to provide you with a short training session and include you on the EMHC schedule, based on your availability.
“During the meal Jesus took bread, blessed it, broke it, and gave it to his disciples. ‘Take this and eat it’ he said, ‘this is my body.” Matt. 26:26
