A Gentle Reminder
This year, the Advent season ends on December 24th. This can cause some confusion as to when we should attend Mass to fulfill our Sunday obligation and Christmas obligation. As Catholics, we are obligated to attend Mass weekly, on Christmas, Easter and Holy Days of Obligation. This year, Christmas Eve falls on a Sunday. Therefore, this year, we have a Sunday obligation as well as a Christmas obligation to attend Mass in the same weekend. Whether you attend Mass for your Sunday obligation on Saturday evening (4pm) or one of our three Sunday Masses (8:30am, 10:00am or 11:30am) is your choice. You will also need to attend Mass for Christmas. The Christmas Mass times are Sunday, Christmas Eve, at either 4:00pm or 6:30pm, or Monday, Christmas Day at 8:00am or 10:00am. So we will enjoy each other’s company twice on Christmas weekend. Q&A You might wonder, "Can I attend Mass on Sunday morning and Sunday evening to fulfill both obligations?" The answer is yes. If you ask, "can I just attend one Mass and call it a day?" the answer is no. |
