Children's Liturgy pre-k and kindergarten
Our Children’s Liturgy sessions during the 10:00 AM Mass have been a huge success. Many children consistently attend and each week there are new faces in the classroom. If the number of children continues to grow consistently, we will have to consider opening up a second group. What a wonderful problem to have!
We will then need to double the number of volunteers. If you feel you would like to volunteer, please contact the Religious Education Office for more information.
Children’s Liturgy of the Word is only open to children in Pre-school to Kindergarten. The reason for this is quite specific. Children who are six years of age are able to attend the First Year of our Sacrament Preparation Program as they are able to receive their First Holy Communion at age seven in the Diocese of Fresno. Children who are First Grade and up are either in preparation for First Holy Communion, or are the “age of reason.” Therefore, Canon Law dictates, in order to fulfill their weekly obligation, they be present at Mass. Their presence at Mass also gives them an opportunity to become familiar with the responses and prayers. Both responses and prayers are an essential part of preparation to receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist. Younger children should not be accompanied by an older sibling. If your child is not comfortable attending the session, a parent may walk them to the classroom, get them settled, and then return to Mass. If your child is not ready or you as a parent do not feel comfortable leaving them for this twenty minute session, they will need to remain with you at Mass, until they are able to attend independently.
Two Safe Environment Certified Adults are present for each session and Ushers accompany children to and from the classroom. Children’s Liturgy classes will not be held on Sundays where there is unusual activity, such as the Carnival and the Craft Fair. These details will always be posted in the bulletin.
